
Guwahati, Aug 26: The Assam Police’s Special Task Force (STF) arrested another alleged operative of the Pakistan-based Shahzad Bhatti Network (SBN) from Hailakandi district in the early hours of Wednesday, taking the total number of arrests in the case to four.
The accused, identified as 21-year-old Fazeal Islam Barbhuiyan, was apprehended from an area under Ramnathpur Police Station during a joint operation conducted by the STF and Hailakandi district police.
According to an Assam Police press release, Barbhuiyan had been evading arrest in connection with STF Police Station Case No. 06/2026. The operation was launched on the basis of leads obtained from earlier arrests and subsequent investigation.
Police said several incriminating articles and documents were recovered from his possession and seized during the operation.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain his alleged role in the network and identify possible associates.
The latest arrest follows the earlier apprehension of three alleged SBN operatives from Dhubri, Chirang and Barpeta districts.
The STF said the operation was part of its continuing investigation and action against extremist and anti-national networks and their operatives in Assam.
