DIBRUGARH, Oct 13: The Graham Bazar Mitra Sangha Durga Puja Committee in Dibrugarh has chosen the famous Ambubachi Mela of Kamakhya Temple as its theme this year, offering devotees and visitors a glimpse of one of Assam’s most significant spiritual gatherings.

The puja, which began in 1984 through the initiative of local residents, is entering its 45th year, according to the organisers. The committee has earned a reputation as one of Dibrugarh’s prominent Durga Puja organisers, attracting visitors from different parts of Assam with its distinctive themes and elaborate pandal decorations.

“This year, devotees and visitors will get to experience the spiritual essence and rich heritage of Nilachal Hill right here in Dibrugarh. We are blending profound faith with intricate pandal craftsmanship, traditional dhak rhythms and cultural programmes,” an organiser said.

He added that the committee has consistently tried to introduce innovative themes to offer visitors a different experience every year.“People from different parts of Assam come to our puja to see the pandal and its decorations. We always try to present something different, and people have appreciated our themes over the years,” he said.

The Ambubachi Mela, held annually at the Kamakhya Temple atop Nilachal Hill in Guwahati, draws devotees, sadhus and tantriks from across the country. The festival is associated with the annual menstruation of Goddess Kamakhya and celebrates the feminine creative power of nature.

“Our pandal will depict the sadhus and tantriks who specially visit the mela during the festivities. We are using eco-friendly materials for the pandal to ensure that our celebrations remain environmentally conscious,” the organiser said.

The committee expects a large turnout this year, as the puja has traditionally witnessed substantial crowds during the festive season.

“We welcome everyone to visit our puja. Along with following traditional rituals, we organise the celebrations with devotion and care. The appreciation we receive from visitors encourages us to continue presenting distinctive themes,” he added.
