GUWAHATI, Oct 8: Nameri Tiger Reserve has received CA|TS Approved status, making all four tiger reserves in Assam — Kaziranga, Manas, Orang and Nameri — CA|TS approved.
The status was accorded on September 10, 2026, after Nameri completed the prescribed assessment process and received approval from the CA|TS International Executive Committee.
The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), in a post on X, said the accreditation recognised Nameri’s commitment to globally established standards for effective tiger conservation and protected area management.
The NTCA said the achievement reflected sustained efforts by the Assam Forest Department, field teams and local communities in strengthening protection, habitat management, monitoring and overall management of the reserve.
CA|TS, or Conservation Assured | Tiger Standards, provides a globally recognised framework to assess the effectiveness of tiger conservation and management. Its assessment covers protection, habitat management, monitoring, governance, community engagement and overall management effectiveness.
The accreditation recognises efforts to strengthen protection, scientific monitoring, habitat management and conservation planning in Nameri, along with the contribution of officers, frontline staff and other stakeholders.
Nameri forms an important tiger conservation landscape on the north bank of the Brahmaputra and maintains ecological connectivity with adjoining forest areas, the hill forests of Arunachal Pradesh and the wider Brahmaputra Valley landscape.
Environment and Forest Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah said on X, “Here in Assam, under the leadership of CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, our four Tiger Reserves, Kaziranga, Manas, Nameri and Orang, have all achieved globally recognised CA|TS accreditation.
Manas is a remarkable story of conservation revival, while Nameri’s recent accreditation marks another important milestone.”“We would be delighted to welcome you to Assam to experience these conservation success stories firsthand!,” the minister added.
