DIBRUGARH, Oct 15: In a significant step towards promoting grassroots sports and nurturing emerging talent, Sri Sri Aniruddhadeva Sports University and the Jyoti Lalita Kanoi Foundation have joined hands to identify and support promising athletes from the rural and remote corners of Assam.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Professor Hirendra Nath Sharma, Vice-Chancellor of Sri Sri Aniruddhadeva Sports University, and Jyoti Prasad Kanoi, Trustee of the Jyoti Lalita Kanoi Foundation, to facilitate the initiative.
The collaboration aims to provide talented youngsters, particularly those from rural communities, tea garden areas and geographically isolated regions, with access to appropriate training, guidance and opportunities to showcase their sporting abilities.

As part of the partnership, a dedicated ‘Sports Talent Hunt Campaign’ will be launched to identify hidden sporting talent across the state and help aspiring athletes move towards a structured pathway for development and excellence in sports.
“We are very much hopeful and positive. We will able to bring the hidden talent from the village areas which will be groomed with professional approach,” said Hirendra Nath Sharma.
“Across Assam’s villages, tea gardens, schools, and remote areas, there is a wealth of undiscovered sporting talent. These young people have strength, enthusiasm, and dreams of moving forward. Yet, many are unable to develop their potential because they lack suitable opportunities, training, facilities, or proper guidance. The belief that a child’s talent should never be limited by financial circumstances or place of residence is the driving force behind this initiative,” said Jyoti Prasad Kanoi.
He added, “Through this campaign, we aim to identify promising sporting talent and guide young people towards opportunities for growth. By bringing together the University’s knowledge of sports and the experience of its experts with the Foundation’s commitment to social service, we seek to build a meaningful partnership,”.
The initiative is expected to strengthen grassroots sports development by focusing on young athletes who often lack access to adequate training facilities, professional guidance and competitive platforms. By bringing the university and the foundation together, the campaign seeks to create greater opportunities for talented sportspersons from underserved areas to develop their potential and pursue their sporting ambitions.
The collaboration marks a step towards making sports development more inclusive and ensuring that geographical and socio-economic barriers do not prevent deserving athletes from getting the recognition and support they need.
